Range Repair in Central Texas Homes
TrueFix Austin repairs ranges in Austin and in Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Georgetown, Lakeway, Bee Cave and the other cities we cover. The technician traces the fault at your address, explains what failed and why, and gives you a quote before any repair work starts.
Gas, Radiant or Induction
Many newer homes and towers are all-electric. Whether the unit runs on gas, radiant elements or induction changes the diagnosis from the first test.
Storms & Outages
A control board that stays dark after a power cut, or a water line that split in a hard freeze, is checked before the appliance is run again.

Range Repair — Common Questions
4 questions people ask about range repair, answered plainly. Anything not covered here can go in the notes when you book.
Still have questions?
Book online and tell us what the range is doing. The model number, if you can find it, helps identify parts before the visit.
Usually. These ranges are built so burners, igniters, valves, elements and hinges can be replaced one at a time, and replacing the whole range often means matching the cutout, the hood and sometimes the gas or electrical supply. A diagnosis tells you what failed before you weigh the two.
A dual-fuel range uses gas for the burners and electricity for the oven, so the two halves fail separately. The oven needs its own 240-volt supply, so check that both halves of its breaker are on. After that, the bake element, temperature sensor and control board are the usual causes.
Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE Appliances, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid, Frigidaire and 15 more: every manufacturer on the list that builds a range. Each brand has its own page covering how it builds its ranges.
It is usually on the frame behind the storage drawer or oven door, or on the side of the oven opening. A phone photo of the rating label is the easiest way to share it, and it lets likely parts be checked before the visit.

A range is diagnosed in a set order: the cooktop and the oven as two separate systems — they share a cabinet and a control panel and very little else, so a fault on one seldom explains trouble on the other.
Common range problems and their causes
Oven Not Heating: A range oven that stays cold, or warms only slightly, has lost one link in its heating chain: the element or igniter, the temperature sensor, a safety fuse, or the control that switches them. On gas ranges, a glow-bar igniter that glows but never opens the valve is the leading cause; on electric ranges it is a burned-out bake element. Before booking, check that the oven is not set to a delayed start or Sabbath mode and that the clock shows the correct time.
Burner Not Working: One burner that has stopped working on a range usually has a problem at that burner alone. On gas models, check for a cap knocked out of place or ports clogged by a spill. On electric coil models, the element or its socket is typically at fault, and on glass tops, the radiant element or its switch. Look at the other burners: if they work, the supply is fine and the fault is local. Clean and dry a gas burner, or swap an electric coil to a working socket to test it.
Control Board Failure: The control board on a modern range runs the oven relays, clock and error detection. Signs of a failing board include a blank or garbled display, keys that do nothing, an oven that heats without being told to, or relays clicking without heat. Many of these symptoms can also come from a keypad, sensor or wiring fault, so a board is replaced only after those are ruled out. A breaker reset for one minute can clear a control locked up by a surge.
Range Oven Not Heating: If the range's burners work but the oven compartment will not heat at all, the fault sits in the oven circuit. Electric ranges most often need a bake element; gas ranges most often need an igniter. When neither bake nor broil work, a thermal fuse, sensor or control failure becomes more likely. With the oven cold, look at the lower element for breaks or blisters, or on a gas model watch whether the igniter glows after bake is selected.
Gas Range Burner Not Lighting: A range burner that clicks without lighting is getting spark but not enough gas at the right spot, or the spark is jumping somewhere else. Moisture from wiping or a boil-over is the everyday cause and often clears when the burner dries. Otherwise, a misaligned cap, clogged ports or a cracked electrode is typical. Remove the cap when cool, clean around the electrode, make sure both cap and head are dry, and seat the cap flat.
The range fault most often misread
A temperature problem blamed on the oven thermostat when the real cause is a worn door gasket or tired hinge springs letting heat out faster than the element can make it up.
Repair or replace?
Most range repairs are elements, igniters, sensors and switches, which are well worth doing. A control board on an older freestanding range can tip toward replacement; on a professional or dual-fuel range, repair nearly always makes more sense.
How ranges differ by brand
Professional ranges from Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Thor and Bertazzoni are built to be rebuilt; dual-fuel models pair gas burners with an electric oven on a 240-volt circuit; GE and Hotpoint report faults in a consistent code set; and Samsung and LG add features such as divided ovens and low-heat cleaning cycles.
Ranges in Central Texas homes
The local factor that matters most for a range is professional ranges in hill-country homes and remodeled central kitchens, which are built to be rebuilt and stay worth repairing decades past the point where a mass-market range would be replaced.
