Appliance repair around Austin

Dishwasher Repair in Central Texas Homes

TrueFix Austin repairs dishwashers in Austin and in Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Georgetown, Lakeway, Bee Cave and the other cities we cover. The technician traces the fault at your address, explains what failed and why, and gives you a quote before any repair work starts.

Storms & Outages

A control board that stays dark after a power cut, or a water line that split in a hard freeze, is checked before the appliance is run again.

Condos & High-Rises

Compact 24-inch dishwashers and stacked laundry are common. Service-elevator time and any insurance certificate are arranged with management before the visit.

Hard-Water Scale

Central Texas water leaves scale in inlet valves, ice makers, washer hose screens and dishwasher spray arms, so it is part of the diagnosis.

Built-In & Panel-Ready

Built-in refrigeration, wall ovens and panel-ready dishwashers sit in cabinetry made to fit them, so removal is planned before the visit.

FAQ

Dishwasher Repair — Common Questions

5 questions people ask about dishwasher repair, answered plainly. Anything not covered here can go in the notes when you book.

Still have questions?

Book online and tell us what the dishwasher is doing. The model number, if you can find it, helps identify parts before the visit.

Soak one cloudy glass in white vinegar for a few minutes. If it comes out clear, the film is mineral from hard water, and raising the dishwasher's hardness setting and keeping rinse aid filled usually fixes it. If it stays cloudy, the glass is etched, which is permanent and is made worse by too much detergent in soft or softened water.

Not necessarily. Many dishwashers use condensation drying rather than a heating element, so plastic items are meant to stay damp. Keeping rinse aid filled helps a lot. Should glass and metal pieces also come out wet, it is worth checking the vent, fan or heater.

Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub. When the dishwasher empties into a garbage disposer, run that disposer first, and if the disposer is new, confirm its knockout plug was taken out. When water still stands inside, inspect the check valve, air gap or drain pump.

Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE Appliances, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid, Frigidaire and 12 more: every manufacturer on the list that builds a dishwasher. Each brand has its own page covering how it builds its dishwashers.

It is usually on the edge or side of the door, visible when it is open. A phone photo of the rating label is the easiest way to share it, and it lets likely parts be checked before the visit.

Dishwasher repair around Austin

Dishwasher repair across Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park & Leander and Georgetown for the 20 brands on the list that build one. Most repairs take about 1–2 hours on site, including the diagnosis, and you get a quote before any work starts.

A dishwasher is diagnosed in a set order: the water supply, then the drain, then the spray arms — dishes coming out dirty usually trace to a supply, spray-arm or filter problem long before a pump or motor has failed.

Common dishwasher problems and their causes

Not Cleaning Properly: When a whole load comes out dirty, the dishwasher is usually getting too little water, too little force or too little heat to the dishes. A packed filter and blocked spray-arm holes are the most common reasons, followed by a weak wash pump, a partial fill and water that never gets hot. Before booking, pull the filter at the bottom of the tub, rinse it under the tap, and check that each spray arm spins freely by hand.

Not Draining: Water left in the bottom after the cycle ends means the drain path is blocked somewhere between the tub and the sink plumbing, or the drain pump is not moving it. Most often it is a clogged filter or sump, then a kinked or plugged drain hose, a blocked disposer inlet or air gap, and finally a failed pump. Clean the filter and, if a disposer is installed, run it for a few seconds before starting another cycle.

Door Won't Close: A door that will not shut all the way usually has something physically in its way or a latch that no longer catches. Look first for a rack pushed past its stops, a tall pan or utensil handle sticking out, or a detergent cup lid that popped open. After that the likely suspects are a broken latch, bent door hinges, or a dishwasher that has shifted in its opening because the mounting brackets came loose. Pull both racks out, check their rollers are on the rails, and try the door again.

Making Unusual Noise: Some sound is normal: water spraying, the drain pump humming and the inlet valve clicking. What deserves attention is a new grinding, rattling or high-pitched whine. Hard objects in the pump area, like glass, bones or olive pits, are the most frequent cause, then spray arms striking a tall item, worn pump or motor bearings, and water hammer in the supply line. Take out the filter and look for anything hard in the sump before using it again.

Not Filling with Water: If you hear the dishwasher run but see little or no water in the tub, the fill side has stopped. The shut-off valve under the sink is the first thing to look at, especially after plumbing work. Next come a failed or clogged inlet valve, a float switch stuck in the raised position, and a control fault that never opens the valve. Check that the supply valve under the sink is fully open and that the float in the tub lifts and drops freely.

The dishwasher fault most often misread

Damp plastics and cool dishes at the end of the cycle on a condensation-drying model, which is how most European-designed dishwashers are meant to behave and not a fault.

Repair or replace?

Latches, valves, drain pumps, heaters and spray arms are modest repairs. A failed wash motor or control board on an inexpensive dishwasher can approach the price of a new one, while on a premium or panel-ready model the repair usually still makes sense.

How dishwashers differ by brand

Bosch, Thermador, Miele and other European designs dry by condensation and heat water through the circulation pump; Whirlpool-built dishwashers (KitchenAid, Maytag, Amana, JennAir) use removable filters the owner cleans; and Fisher & Paykel's DishDrawer puts two independent dishwashers in one cabinet.

Dishwashers in Central Texas homes

The local factor that matters most for a dishwasher is hard Central Texas water, which films glassware, clogs spray-arm jets and scales the heating element, and which many dishwashers have a hardness setting for that is often left at the factory default.
